Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger...
SpiritI don't know how it started, but as long as I can remember I have been a man who is quick to anger. I don't like it. I know it helps nothing. I know it hurts much.
For some reason, I often find myself reacting to situations from a defensive “stance” when, in reality, there is no cause for such aggression (yeah, thats usually my style...aggression). You might imagine, this doesn't make a person's day less stressful or more enjoyable. Some days, it is just plain wears me out.
There was a message at church recently that seemed to strike right at the heart of this issue. It all boiled down to a simple message; “Let your only anger, be righteous anger.”
“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
Ephesians 4:29-32
I don't think I will ever be able to just naturally feel this way...it takes a concious effort on my part even to remember the message some days, much less follow it. But, on the days I can manage to keep a lid on the unwholesome talk, I experience a much more relaxed and stress-free day.
